The Most Interesting Spelling Homework Activities For Second Grade Students

Getting your second grader to learn their spelling words does not have to be a chore. You can learn interesting ways to help them with their spelling. It is a great way to make sure that you get them thinking about their spelling and to let them even enjoy it a little.

  1. Word find
  2. This is an excellent way to get your child to learn their spelling words. It will be a lot of fun for them as well. Get a sheet of grid paper. Draw a square line near the outer edges of the paper. Have them put their words in this box with one letter of their spelling word in each box. Let them know that they can do this horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. Then have them fill in all of the other boxes with different letters. You can also create one and then you guys can race to see who can find all of the words the fastest. It is a great way to make spelling fun.

  3. Bubble letters
  4. Have your child write each of the spelling words in bubble letters. You can choose to add cute designs and color them as well. It will give them a chance to concentrate on each letter and by creating an attractive presentation of the word, possibly help them remember how to spell it. You can even have them do one per page and then hang them up on their walls. If they have a long list, you can have them do a few each day since each one will take a significant amount of time to complete, especially if they color or design them.

  5. Word scramble
  6. Create a word scramble for your kid. Rearrange the letters of all of their spelling words and then write them on a sheet so that they can unscramble them. Make sure that they write the unscrambled word next to the scrambled one.

  7. Goofy sentences
  8. Have your child include their spelling words in goofy sentences. It will help them remember how the word is used which will help them remember how to spell it. You can see if they can create a sentence for every word and then check the ones that can’t so that you can explain what it means so it will be easier to spell. They will be able to remember the spelling easier if they know what the word means.
